Workshop on drug de-addiction culminates



JAMMU: A two-day workshop on drug de-addiction, organised by National Service Scheme (NSS) unit GGM Science College, culminated on Tuesday. The workshop was held under patronage of Principal, Dr Ravender Tickoo.
On first day, 45 NSS volunteers participated in poster-making competition awareness theme ‘Say no to Drugs’.
On second day, an awareness programme was organised wherein Vinay Sharma SSP Anti Narcotic Task Force JK UT was the Chief Guest. He has got a Gallantry Medal, DGP Medal besides Chief Secretary’s letter of Appreciation for anti-encroachment drives in Jammu and has also been rewarded by MHA for actions against drug smugglers. Vinay Sharma had a heartily fruitful interaction with students, motivating and inspiring them with his personal experiences. “Substance abuse disorder is chronic disease which eats-up the entire fabric of a society. The need of the hour is to cultivate holistic approach for taking care of soul, mind body and heart. Releasing happy dopamine by indulging in meditation artistic sport activities can help youth a lot,” he said, asking youth to be a part of awareness for building drug-free society.
The event started with welcome address by NSS PO, Dr Deepali Mahajan. The welcome address was followed by lamp lighting ceremony and Saraswati Vandna presented by Divya, Sonal and Vishakha while proceedings were managed by Parul and Priya. Volunteers Mohd Ali, Shaaku, Farzana, Ritesh and Tushar spoke about drug abuse and de-addiction in Hindi, English and Dogri. Rap song on theme was also presented by Bhanu.
About 150 students of college participated in the event amid strict observance of COVID SOPs. The event was chaired by Vice Principal Prof Anil Verma and ended with vote of thanks by Hita Gupta. Tanisha, Muskan, Mitali, Aghav, Krishna, Sajal, Shantmanu, Arpna, Vishali, Sahil coordinated the workshop.
