Woman among two held for illicit distillation


Jammu: Police on Wednesday nabbed two persons including a woman who were indulged in illicit distillation.
As per details, an information was received at Police Station Bishnah regarding selling of illicit liquor by a woman in Kotli Charkan area. Acting swiftly, a party from Police Station Bishnah led by SHO Insp Joginder Chib rushed to spot and recovered 10 litres of illicit liquor from her possession. Similarly, acting on an input received at Police Station Arnia, a police party led by SHO Arnia Insp Harjeet Singh raided a suspected place at Nakowal and recovered 5 litres of illicit liquor and destroyed 75 litres of Lahan.
The accused were arrested and cases vide FIR No. 82/2021 under Section 48 (A) of Excise Act and Section 188/ 269 of IPC and FIR No. 34/2021 under Section 48 (F) of Excise Act & 188 of IPC were registered at Police Stations Bishnah & Arnia respectively. The accused have been identified as Veena, wife of Suram Chand, resident of Village Kotli Charkan Tehsil Bishnah, arrested by Bishnah police and Bahadur Singh, son of Sai Dass, resident of Nakowal, arrested by Arnia police.
It is pertinent to mention that 300 litres of Lahan was also recovered from another location i.e., Marhol area under jurisdiction of Police Station Arnia and destroyed on the spot. The whole operation was done under the supervision of SDPO R S Pura Shabir Khan.
