Shiv Kumar PadhaThere are many proverbs and definitions coined for the presentage Indian Politicians like ‘Indian politicians change their colour like chameleon. The mask of nationalism remains on their face so long they are in power or can exercise their influence in the parlour of power. Therefore it is rightly said that in democracy people get the Government which they deserve.Disappointed over the degeneration in the present standards of Indian politics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has regularly been calling upon the youth of the country to join politics, take over the reins of the country in their hands and steer the nation in the direction of peace, prosperity and progress and help regaining its honour which it commanded during Ashoka, Chander Guput, Buddha and Vedic period. The rationale behind PMs appeal to the youth, for joining the politics is based upon the global truth that India has the highest youth population amongst all over the world. According to the recent survey, close to 65 per cent of the Indian population is aged below 35 years. Because of its youth population of 70 crore, India is called a young country.Falling standard of Indian politics, lack of discipline, influence of criminals in the political parties and above all undemocratic attitude of the organisational heads, neither tempt nor motivate any person, especially youth to become a part of any political party in the country. There is a logic behind this distaste of the youth due to the present Bum, Barood, Bandooq culture prevailing almost in the majority of the political parties of the country. As per ADR survey of 2004 there were 125 or 24.3 per cent MPs involved criminal cases. This proportion saw 6 per cent jump in 2009 Lok Sabha elections and in 2019, nearly half of the elected MPs 43.5 per cent of 512 for each ADR analysed data- had criminal cases nagainst them. The story of the states LAs is not different from the LS one. It can be easily inferred that doors of political parties are always open for every Tom, Dick and Harry. In the present age of competitions, the organisers and managers of different games and sports are always on the hunt for the selection of professional, disciplined and cooperative players for their teams. Their hawkish eyes single out the best performers from the playfield and join them in their individual teams. But the procedure and yard stick in vogue for the recruitment of the political workers and rank holders in the majority of political parties is absolutely reverse of what is used while selecting capable players for the teams. The qualifications and conditions needed for becoming an active member of any Indian political party neither depends upon one’s capability, sincerity or dedication for party nor on their faith in the ideology and principles of the party, they intend to join. The capability of the party workers, being recruited, is not gauged from their achievements and performance and services they have rendered to society but on his individual involvement and performance during the country wide bloody andolans, their involvement in the arson, loot, plunder and creating chaos. The successful worker is one who has taken part in large number of lynching, stabbing and killings or one who has set Government and the private property ablaze, one who has provoked the mob for violence, or those MLAs or MPs or Ministers who use their constitutional position in order to fan, finance and fuel the fire against sovereignty and integrity. A new species of politicians from JNU Jamia Millia AMU, Shaheen Bagh ‘Tukde tukde’, Afzal Guru WurhanWani, Kanhaiya gang and the Andolanjeevi is mushrooming in the country and are in rich demand in Political parties, having their loyalties with the hostile countries committed to destabilise the peace and tranquility of the country and topple the elected Government in undemocratic way. Often some political parties of the country, in league with pseudo ‘Budhijeevi’ the byproducts of Shaheen Bagh and Kissan Andolan, are behaving like snakes in the grass and the ambushed terrorists. It is a million Dollar question as to why a youth, with enormous intelligence and avenues to serve the mankind at national and international level as a teacher, scientist, doctor and a philanthropist, should join cadre of the political parties where the criminals, and not the virtuous people, rule the roost, Where the political leaders, charged with heinous crimes, manage the functioning of their political parties and contest the election from inside the Jail or where the national level parties discourage the armed forces and glorify the killed terrorists, where the political leaders appeal to the hostile countries to help topple the elected Governments, where hands of many leaders are stained with human blood and are convicted of rape andmurder cases.Indian politics, which was once considered as an ideal of democratic practices and values in the world, has been reduced to a mere battle field where mudslinging, character assassination and a platform for exchanging unparliamentarily sentences has become the political culture, which is not a proper place for the civilised citizens of the country.
