JAMMU: Demanding complete ban on sale of single-use plastics in J&K, the ‘We The Humans Forum for Nature & Mankind’, an NGO has urged Government to implement strict rules regarding violation of the same.Chairman, ‘We The Humans’ Retired Principal District & Session Judge K Y S Manhas, while addressing some needy families, who were provided blankets by the NGO in collaboration with Swasthya Evam Shiksha Charitable Trust New Delhi, during a small function at Sun Rise Public School, demanded a complete ban on sale and use of single-use plastics, if we want to survive on earth.Manhas further said, “During last one decade, we all have witnessed an upsurge in use of single-use plastic by soft-drinks, packaged water, cooking oil, milk & milk products, rice and wheat flour manufacturers and suppliers. Earlier, the necessary commodities were either supplied in glassware and sacks made of jute or eco-friendly material, but this shift from eco-friendly to non biogradable packaging material, to increase profit margins, have resulted in devastating effects on environment. Not only drains of all inhabited areas got choked with single-use plastics but we can witness piles of plastic garbage on roads, dupmping sites, on peripheries of cities, highways, rivers, ponds & lakes,” he asserted, adding that it is high time that Government should consider a complete ban on use and sale of single-use plastic in J&K UT.Mohinder Kumar, the founder member; Sanna Khan Office Secretary and Narinder Kumar Principal also spoke on the occasion. Later, ten blankets were distributed among needy families.
