CHENNAI: Indian Olympic Association has granted affiliation to newly elected office bearers of Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) under presidentship of Dr Achyuta Samanta, Member of Parliament. It was informed by President, Volleyball Federation of India (VFI), Dr Achyuta Samanta, while presiding over a virtual executive committee meeting of Federation, which was attended by Anil Choudhary Secretary General VFI; S Vasudevan, Chairman VFI, other office bearers and Executive Committee members.During the meeting, threadbare discussions were held on a number of points regarding future working of Federation. It was decided that Indian Volley League will be conducted before or after Olympic Games.The Governing Council will discuss the matter to draw a road-map for successful conduct of the league. Indian Volley League will not be related to Volleyball Federation of India to avoid any litigation against Federation in future. Further, the members unanimously approved to take up the matter in High Court against Arbitrator’s decision on Federation with regard to Baseline case.President VFI, Dr Achyuta Samanta proposed to set-up two volleyball academies in Odisha besides conducting volleyball tournaments in rural areas of Odisha for development of volleyball. Samanta also proposed to conduct Senior National Volleyball Championship at KIIT, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha; Junior National Championship at Bardhwan, West Bengal and Youth National at Kerala. Regarding other age-group championships, it was decided that same will also be conducted subject to Government clearance due to COVID-19 pandemic. The house also approved to announce results of National Referees Examination held at KIIT, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha.It was also decided that an election will be conducted within 5 months for Karnataka Volleyball Association while firm action will be taken against 2 state Associations for their anti-federation activities. Ad-hoc Committees will be formed comprising members from VFI for smooth functioning of respective Associations.The House further decided that as Asian Volleyball Confederation has cancelled Age-Group Championship due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Senior men and women team will be prepared for Asian Senior Men & Women’s Championship this year and Coaching Camp will be conducted from March 2021.The house welcomed nomination of Sidharth Daluja, President, Volleyball Association of J&K as Associate Joint Secretary of Volleyball Federation of India. Dr D K Singh, Associate Vice President has also been nominated as a Member of Development & Promotion Committee and Charley Jacob as Member of Talent Hunt Committee of VFI. Accounts statements of VFI for year 2020-2021 were also approved unanimously by the House.
