KATHUA: One-day Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) Surveillance workshop was organized in Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua in collaboration with WHO NPSP Jammu to emphasize on the importance of surveillance of VPDs.Principal of GMC Kathua, Prof Dr Anjali Nadir Bhat inaugurated the event in which participants from various departments viz Paediatrics, Microbiology, Medicine and Community Medicine were sensitised about various VPD which includes diphtheria, pertussis and neonatal tetanus and the importance of disease surveillance.VPD surveillance is vitally important for its potential to inform policy and monitor immunization programmes, including vaccine introduction, coverage and potential use for outbreak response.The resource persons included Dr B.N Boughal HoD Medicine, Dr Yangchen Dolma Incharge Dept of Community Medicine, Dr Gurmeet Kour AP Community Medicine, Dr Kirandeep AP Medicine and Dr Mehak RRT Consultant WHO Jammu. Dr Surinder Attri, HoD Pathology, Dr K.L Gupta, HoD Biochemistry, Dr Vinita Shawney, HoD Pharmacology, and other faculty members from medical college also attended the workshop. The workshop was also attended by Dr Ravinder Pal Singh, SMO Jammu.
