Unified Command Meet: LG reviews security arrangements for Shri Amarnath Yatra

SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha on Thursday reviewed the security arrangements and preparations for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra at Unified Command Meeting in Srinagar today. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary and senior security officers from the Home Department, J&K Police, Army, Intelligence Agencies, CRPF, BSF and others.

✅ Adequate number of oxygen cylinders, medical beds, emergency responders, doctors and nursing staff has been deployed to deal with any emergency situation

The officers apprised the Lieutenant Governor about the overall security situation while threadbare discussions were held on various arrangements related to Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
Detailed plans for telecom connectivity, health care, fire safety, electricity and water supply, weather forecasting, langar management, sanitation, lodging and disaster management were reviewed by the Lt Governor.

5000 personnel to be deployed in Jammu City
Jammu: As many as 5,000 security personnel will be deployed in the Jammu city as part of the multi-tier security arrangement for the Amarnath Yatra which begins later this month.
The journey will begin from both the routes — the traditional 48-km route from Nunwan in Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag, and 14-km shorter but steep Baltal route in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir.
“Adequate security has been put in place for the base camps and lodging places in the Jammu city. Security is a major challenge,” Jammu Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Chandan Kohli told reporters in an interaction at an event organised by the Press Club Jammu here.
The SSP said adequate security measures have been put in place also around five registration centres, three token centres and 32 lodging centres. Pointing to major challenges, he said there are new security threat of sticky bombs, hybrid terrorists and IEDs dropped by drones.
He said the security setup has been drawn for convoys of Amarnath vehicles and area domination measures along road through which yatra convoys will pass.
Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) have also been put in place, he said.
Meanwhile, Additional Director General (Western Command) of BSF P V Ramasastry visited the Jammu Frontier this afternoon and reviewed the security situation and operational preparedness of field formations in the region, officials said. He was on a two-day visit to the Jammu frontier from Wednesday to review the preparations of the Amarnath Yatra, the PRO of BSF, Jammu, said.
Inspector General (IG) of Jammu D K Boora gave a detailed presentation to the ADG about the general security scenario in the area, he said.
Ramasastry also visited Samba and Kathua borders and took stock of the security situation there. During the visit, the ADG also interacted with jawans and praised the troops for their alertness.

The Lt Governor also reviewed the detailed plans for all basic necessities including the security arrangements that have been put in place by J&K Police in tandem with Army and Central Armed Police Forces for all the Yatris and the service providers.
The Lt Governor expressed satisfaction over the arrangements put in place by Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB) and other departments for the smooth and peaceful conduct of annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, which will start from 30th June.
“The government is committed to provide the best facilities for Yatris. The improvements have been made in the arrangements as compared to the previous years. All necessary facilities including traffic management, health, communication, water sanitation are in place. We are aware of the high altitude related issues and adequate number of oxygen cylinders, medical beds, emergency responders, doctors and nursing staff has been deployed to deal with any emergency situation,” Lt Governor said. CEO, Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board also briefed the meeting about services to facilitate the Yatris and do’s and don’ts for Yatris during the holy pilgrimage.
