Two LeT terrorists killed in Shopian encounter

Srinagar: Two terrorists of the proscribed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district on Tuesday, police said.
Based on specific information regarding presence of terrorists in village Alshipora area of district Shopian, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Shopian Police, Army (44RR) and CRPF (178BN) in the area, an official handout stated.

Jammu: Sunita Sharma, wife of ATM guard Sanjay Sharma who was gunned down by terrorists in February, on Tuesday thanked security forces for eliminating the killer of her husband and said justice has been done with her.
Sanjay Sharma (40), a Kashmiri Pandit, was shot dead by terrorists in the Achan area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on February 26. Expressing satisfaction, Sunita Sharma said that no innocent person should be killed the way her husband was gunned down in the valley.
“I thank the security forces for eliminating the terrorist involved in the killing of my husband. My husband was innocent. I was waiting for the elimination of the terrorist who killed my husband. They gave me justice today,” Sunita Sharma told PTI. Sunita Sharma said that her trauma has ended today. “We have got respite from this pain that my husband’s killer was alive. We still don’t know why my husband was killed. He was ill. I had been waiting for the past seven-eight months to hear the news of the killing of that terrorist,” she said.
Sunita Sharma said they (terrorists) snatched these minor children’s father from them. “I lost my husband, and also my house in Kashmir. Government gave me a job and compensation, but the pain of losing my husband will never end,” she said.

During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon them, which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter.
The bodies of the killed terrorists were retrieved from the site of encounter. They have been identified as Marifat Maqbool son of Mohammad Mangloo resident of Cheigund Keegam, Shopian and Jazim Farooq alias Abrar son of Farooq Ahmad Wani resident of Heff Shirmal, Shopian.
As per the police records, both the killed terrorists were categorized terrorists and involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on police, security forces and civilian atrocities. The killed terrorist Jazim Farooq alias Abrar was involved in case FIR No. 14/2023 under section 302, 307 IPC, 7/27Arms Act, 16, 18, 20 UAP Act of Police Station Litter pertaining to the killing of Kashmiri Pandit Sanjay Sharma. Terrorist Marifat Maqbool was involved in case FIR No 202/2022 under section 20, 38 ULA(P) Act of Police Station Shopian, Case FIR No. 250/2022 under section 307 IPC, 7/27 IA Act, 16, 20, 38 ULA (P) Act.
It is pertinent to mention that another terrorist, Aqib Bhat of Malangpora Pulwama involved in killing of Late Sanjay Sharma was already killed in Padgampora encounter in the month of February 2023.
Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation. ADGP Kashmir congratulated the joint team of Police and security forces for conducting successful operation without any collateral damage and termed the operation as a big success. In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation is in progress.
