JAMMU: Tawi Trekkers J&K, pioneer adventure sports club of J&K felicitated two ace mountaineers of the country, Nirmal Kumar and Monty Rajkhowa, who got married recently, here on Thursday.Whereas Nirmal Kumar of Doda, who has climbed the highest peak in the world, the Everest, the 3rd highest Kangchenjunga and the eighth highest peak Manaslu, his wife Monty Rajkhowa from north eastern state of Assam has the distinction of being among the very few Indian mountaineers who have summitted Kangchenjunga besides Satopanth, a formidable peak at a height of over 7000m.Both Nirmal and Monty hold higher ranks of Executive Engineers in the Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) and presently posted at Bombay High. In fact, Nirmal Kumar was the leader of ONGC expedition in which both of them summitted Kangchenjunga peak. They were also a part of the ONGC Everest expedition in which Nirmal scaled the peak and Monty had to come back from camp four due to certain health issues.On their arrival in Jammu, both Nirmal and Monty were welcomed with a bouquet by General secretary of Tawi Trekkers J&K Shawetica Khajuria in the presence of Professor Lalit Magotra, a founder member and now an advisor of the club; Ram Khajuria, President, Sumit Khajuria, a senior member, Akash Sharma and others.Now, J&K has the distinction of having an outstanding mountaineering couple who have scaled four death zone peaks amongst them. To give boost to mountaineering activities in J&K they are planning to organise a major mountaineering expedition in Kishatwar Himalaya in the coming summers, disclosed Shawetica Khajuria who is also General Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K.
