STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: A five-member team of Tawi Trekkers J&K successfully completed a short trekking expedition from Mcleodganj to Triund, a serene meadow situated at an altitude of over 10000ft in the Dhauladhar range of Himalaya in Himachal Pradesh.Starting the trek from Mcleodganj, the seat of Dalai Lama, the team led by Sumit Khajuria, enjoyed the trek to Triund in three phases. For the first three kilometers it was an enjoyable walk, on a motorable road, amidst the calm and cool pines up to Dharamkot, popularly called mini Israel because of the presence of large number of Israeli tourists in the area. The next 3.5 km trek to Gallu temple was also a road walk but the road at many places was in such a dilapidated condition that the trekkers had to focus more on placing their steps at the right spots than enjoying the beautiful scenery around.Whereas the senior members, the 76 years old Prof. Lalit Magotra and 72 years old Ram Khajuria, had a well earned rest at Gallu temple (8200ft), the younger participants Sushil Singh, Ayush Sharma and the leader Sumit Khajuria explored the area for short routes to Gallu temple and Triund from Bhagshu Nag. However, all these routes, though short, were found to involve steep gradients and hence were not comfortable for older trekkers. The next 6.5 kilometers rocky trail, non-existent at some places, to Triund was quite unique. It was tiring to some extent but very enjoyable through mixed forest of deodar, oak and rhododendron. Besides, the regular sighting of cobra plants on both sides of the trail presented an amazing experience. The trekkers reached Triund at about 2 pm after completing the 13 kilometers trek in 5.5 hours. The beautiful rugged meadow situated at an altitude of about 10000ft presents an excellent camping sight which commands a panoramic view of whole Kangra valley especially Dharamshala town on one side and Dhauladhar mountain range on the other.“After enjoying nature at its full glory and a long fruitful interaction with the local tourist guides the trekkers returned to Gallu temple for a night stay wherefrom they trekked, the next day, to another very beautiful waterfall, about six kms to and fro distance from Gallu temple,” informed one of the team members, Ram Khajuria.
