Sunderbani Club beats Blue Stars, enters QFs


Shaheed Lieut Thakur Dass Memorial Cricket Tournament


AKHNOOR: Sunderbani Cricket Club won the league match and entered in the quater-finals of the ongoing Shaheed Lt Thakur Dass Memorial Cricket Tournament being organised by Akhnoor Sports Club under the overall supervision S.S Langeh, General Secretary District Jammu JKCA at Government Higher Secondary School Akhnoor, on Saturday.
Sunderbani Cricket Club beat Blue Stars Akhnoor by 23 runs.
Batting first after winning the toss, Sunderbani Cricket Club scored 195 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs.
Vinod was the top scorer with 52 runs followed by Arif Mirza, Rohit Sharma and Piyush, who contributed 44, 37 and 15 runs respectively. Vinod, a senior cricketer of above 60 yrs in age, who played with his son Piyush, 16, was the main attraction for spectators.
For Blue Stars, Ajay grabbed two wickets while Rahul and Parveen claimed one each.
In reply, Blue Stars Cricket Club failed to chase the target and managed to score 172 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Sanjeev played a fine unbeaten knock of 52 runs but all in vain as the team lost the match by 23 runs.
Vijay Singh and Munna added 32 and 19 runs respectively to the total. For Sunderbani Club, Sumit, Atul, Vishu, Micky and Piyush grabbed one wicket each.
For his best batting display, Vinod was declared as Man of the Match.
Today’s match was officiated by Dayal Singh and Vikas Bali as umpires and Sushil Gupta and Nikhil Jamwal as scorers.
Deepak Mani and Amarjit Singh were the special guests in today’s match who gave away Man of the Match award.
