SRINAGAR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has successfully trapped and arrested a Sub Inspector, Gh Mohammad Bhat of Police Station Serigufwara, for accepting bribe of Rs 7,000.
As per an official spokesperson, the ACB received a complaint alleging therein that a quarrel took place between complainant and a person, resident of village Dupathyar, Anantnag. He further said that on the issue, complainant was called by Police Station Serigufwara and detained for some time. He was released and directed by 2nd Officer of police station to report on next morning. The next day, the complainant was informed by Sub Inspector Gh Mohammad Bhat, second officer of Police Station on phone, that few other persons including complainant are also involved in the case. The second officer of the Police Station also assured the complainant that if he would pay Rs 7,000 then no further proceedings will be initiated against him, he added.
The official further said that on receipt of complaint, a case vide FIR No.07 of 2021 under section 7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar and investigation was taken up and a trap team was constituted. The trap team laid a successful trap and during the process, Sub Inspector Gh Mohammad Bhat demanded and accepted bribe, through a private person at his instance. The amount of bribe to the tune of Rs 7,000 was also recovered on the spot. The Sub Inspector was arrested and taken in custody by ACB team, he said, adding that further investigation in the case is going on.
