ST Impact: Finally Mehboob’s family of Bhadarwah gets sanction letter under PMAY Urban

Bhadarwah: After the news showing the plight of Bhadarwah’s Mehboob Ahmed Fani who has been living in a tin shed in extreme cold conditions along with his ten family members, EO Municipal Committee Bhadarwah fast tracked his case and after getting approval in record time, today EO MC Bhadarwah personally visited there and handover the sanction letter to the family under PMAY Urban as a special case. The family expressed their gratitude to STATE TIMES for highlighting the issue and also thank EO Yousaf-ul-Umar who resolved the issue on priority.
Shelterless Mehboob and his family of Bhadarwah, was compelled to survive under a tin shed since long after authorities failed to provide assistance under PMAY urban even after lapse of years together, finally heaved a sigh of relief after MC Bhadarwah provided sanction under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojna(PMAY) Urban as a special case within days.
Poverty-stricken Mehboob Ahmed Fani(50) who lives in Chinar Mohalla of Bhadarwah in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, is sole bread-earner for a family of ten is living in a small tin shed in the bone-chilling cold in snow bound Bhadarwah along with his aged mother Raja Begum, wife Shaheena Begum, 3 children including Saima Bano, Asif Hussain, Sania Bano and two infants (Salma 4 yrs & Hania 1.5 years) beside his two younger siblings.
It is notable the family of Mehboob Ahmed Fani has been living in the tin shed for the last three years, which is presently surrounded with knee height snow. Even during the below-freezing minus 10 and 12 temperature, the family is putting up in this shed. Unfortunately, Fani a Daily-wage safai-Karamchari could not afford to shift his family into a safe rented place. The Muncipal Committee Bhadarwah is mere 1km away from Mehboob’s dingy shed, but the department never ever even thought to enlist him under the scheme – Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) urban.
Mehboob Fani is a daily wage Safai Karmachari of MCB and works each day to keep the family pot boiling. Three years back he had written to the local Municipal committee and the block office for a pucca house, but till date nothing has happened. Fani alleged that, he has appealed at least 10 times to the concerned authorities for help to avail of the PMAY facility, but to no avail.
Pertinently, State Times last week, carried this story highlighting the plight of the Mehboob’s family, who was living in a tin shed along with his 10 family members including aged mother and minor childrens. Following the story, MCB officials swung into action and consequently, EO MC Bhadarwah Yousaf-ul-Umar along with other officials visited the family and assured to take corrective measures in the case on priority basis. The family, who has lost all hope of getting any help as they have been leaving in miserable conditions including harsh weather after heavy snowfall, finally heaved a sigh of relief as they received sanction letter by the EO MC Bhadarwah Yousaf-ul-Umar himself at their doorstep to start construction work of dream house.
The family, who was depressed and in tears when this Correspondent visited them last week to file the story, is today smiling from ear to ear and everyone in the family is all praise for STATE TIMES for highlighting their issue and getting the approval to start construction.
Mehboob Ahmed Fani said that after running from pillar to post and literally begging before officials for last three years, I almost gave up and started believing that we will never get a roof on our heads but you came as an angel igniting a new ray of hope for us. Fani said that today EO MC Bhadarwah visited here and handover sanction letter and also assured first advance installment soon. I am thankful to EO MC Bhadarwah as well for taking this case on priority. Insha-Allah, we will enter our home soon and for this I will remain indebted to STATE TIMES.
Shaheena Begum wife of Mehboob Fani said that I have been living in constant fear with my family and was apprehensive that wether we will be able to survive this harsh winters after heavy snowfall, but you saved us and for this I will keep on praying for you. EO MC Bhadarwah Yousaf-ul-Umar, who personally visited the family to hand over sanction letter, said, “after Media reports, i personally visited there and came to know about the miserable condition of the family and hardships they were facing despite following all the required norms.”
EO informed that the case was taken up on priority and within days, the sanction letter under PMAY urban scheme has been handed over to the family today to start construction. We will provide first advance installment(FAI) as soon as possible in view of Mehboob’s financial conditions.
