KISHTWAR: A delegation of Self Help Group Association (SHGA) has submitted the memorandum urging Govt to restart the scheme which has been abandoned. The deputation was led by youth leader of Apni Party Mehran Anjum Mir alongwith SHG members called on Vice Provincial President Jammu Syed Asgar Ali.The deputation members highlighted their issues that the Govt has abolished the engineering wing in various government departments and merged it with PWD which will further increase unemployment for young engineers passing out every year from various institutes. The concept of Self Help Groups was introduced in 2004 by the then Congress-PDP government to make the educated youth of J&K self-reliant and job creators instead of job seekers, they appraised Syed Asgar Ali.“This unique concept reserved 30% of the total jobs in construction and up-gradation of infrastructure work in various government departments and corporations for the SHGs which could be made by a group of 4-10 engineering educated persons,” they informed. On this occasion, they informed that there were 1000 SHG registered in Jammu Division and 1400 SHG registered in Kashmir Division i.e., approximately 15000 engineers working and taking advantage of this scheme. With the closing of the scheme, they said, the SHGs have become workless. “These SHGs had provided employment to hundreds of families besides helping the Govt to complete many prestigious projects on time,” the deputation said. They added that the workers engaged with them included thousands of masons, carpenters, plumbers, tipper-trolley owners and all of them have been rendered jobless. On listening to them, Syed Asgar Ali assured that their demands will be highlighted before the Govt and appealed that the scheme should be revived.“Party President Altaf Bukhari Sahab has taken keen interest in the resolution of the SHG issue and has urged the Govt to restart the scheme which had given employment to the skilled and unskilled youth by making them part and parcel of the scheme in different Govt departments,” said Asgar. He said that the Apni Party will leave no stone unturned to fulfill the demands of the unemployed engineers who were earlier engaged in SHGs.“We will forcefully take up the matter with the Govt so that it can be revived and youth can be made part of development in J&K,” added Asgar.Prominent among those who were part of the delegation included Asif Rasool Bazdar and Musarat Zargar.
