Seven drug peddlers nabbed,contraband recovered

SRINAGAR/JAMMU/KATHUA: Police on Thursday nabbed 7 drug peddlers and recovered contraband from their possession.
In Kulgam, during intervening night of 11-12 November 2020, officers while patrolling at Nagbal Frisal, spotted a suspicious person carrying a bag and signaled him to spot. On seeing police, he tried to escape from spot but was nabbed by active patrolling party. He was identified as Nafees Ahmad Dar resident of Brazloo. During checking, 10 Kg Poppy Straw was recovered from his bag. He was arrested on the spot and shifted to Police Station Yaripora where he remained in custody.
Similarly, in Awantipora, officers at a checkpoint established at village Kawani, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK03-2890 driven by Ajaz Ahmad Manto, resident of Waghama Bijbehara. During checking, 12 Kg of poppy straw concealed in a gunny bag was recovered from the vehicle. He was arrested and shifted to Police Station Awantipora where he remained under custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized. Accordingly, cases vide FIR numbers 143/2020 and 163/2020 under relevant sections of law were registered at Police Station Yaripora and Police Station Awantipora respectively and investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, Srinagar Police while patrolling at Malkha Chowk Nowhatta signaled a person riding on a bike (JK01U-8310) to stop. He tried to escape from the spot but was tactfully nabbed by patrolling party. During checking, 225 gm Charas concealed in a polythene bag was recovered from his possession. The accused, identified as Ajaz Ahmad Manto resident of Waghama Bijbehara, was arrested on the spot. Similarly, officers at a checkpoint established at Khwaja Bazaar Chowk intercepted a passenger auto-rickshaw (JK01G-4383) driven by Fayaz Ahmad Lone, resident of Bota Kadal, Lal Bazaar Srinagar. During checking, 185 banned tablets/capsules were recovered from his possession. Both drug peddlers were arrested and shifted to Police Station Nowhatta where they remained under custody. The vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized. Accordingly, cases vide FIR Nos 52/2020 and 53/2020 under relevant sections of law have been registered in Police Station Nowhatta and investigation has been initiated.
In Kathua district, Lakhanpur police intercepted a pedestrian near railway bridge and during frisking recovered 8,640 intoxicating capsules from his possession. The accused, identified as Javed Ahmed, resident of Ghulam Nazir, resident of Sopore, was arrested on the spot. Meanwhile, Domana police during checking duty of vehicles and pedestrians, intercepted a Bullet motorcycle (JK02CK/0809) on which three persons were coming from Upper Thather towards Raiper Bantalab. On seeing police, the rider left the bike and fled away from the spot. On seeing this, police overpowered 2 pillion riders, who during questioning, disclosed their identity as Nasir Alam alias Nissa, son of Abdul Aziz, resident of Upper Thather and Tarunesh Sharma, son of Mohinder Sharma, resident of 335, Sarwal Jammu. They also disclosed name of the rider as Garu Singh, son of Janak Singh, resident of Sukhi Nehar Bantalab.
During personal, a polythene packet containing about 10 gram heroin like substances and narcotics capsules/ tablets weighing 325 gm approximately were recovered from their possession. During preliminary enquiry, the aforesaid persons disclosed that they along with Garu Ram, are jointly collecting money to do business of purchase and sale of illicit drugs and psychotropic substances.
The duo was arrested and a case vide FIR No. 318/2020 under Sections 21, 22, 25, 27-A & 29 of NDPS Act was registered against them. The entire operation took place under guidance of SHO Domana Chanchal Singh under supervision of SDPO Domana Kosheen Koul and SP Rural Sanjay Sharma and overall supervision of SSP Jammu Shridhar Patil.
