JAMMU: A number of non-political organisations, intellectuals, youth, students and citizens held a Dharna in front of statue of Maharaja Hari Singh under the leadership of Patron, Dogra Kranti Dal (DKD) and former MLA, Balwant Singh Mankotia on Tuesday, demanding separate statehood for Jammu Division.Speaking on the occasion, Mankotia said that the protest has been organised to highlight aspirations of Jammu people and pressurize need for separate Jammu State during the ensuing All Party Meeting to be held on June 24, 2021 at New Delhi.Mankotia pointed out that an Independent Jammu State is the only solution to mitigate all sufferings of Jammu people, who had been facing a step-motherly and discriminatory treatment at hands of Kashmir-based leaders for the last more than 70 years. He further said that people of Jammu Division, known for their nationalist and patriotic character, were discriminated in every matter, may it be flow of funds, projects or development schemes released by the Centre. “Discrimination started from initial stage when Kashmir Province was given more number of constituencies despite having less population and less area due to which Jammu Province lagged behind in every sector miserably,” he asserted. Mankotia further said that Jammu people sincerely hope that Central Government, respecting their sentiments, would resolve their genuine long pending demands by granting separate statehood status to Jammu.Earlier, Balwant Singh Mankotia and other participants paid rich tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh by garlanding his statue.Prominent among those who participated in the protest included Rafiq Chandel, Social Worker Partap Singh, Sanjeev Kumar, Sham Gorkha, Mahanderpal Singh, Satbir Singh Manahas, Councilor Samnik Bhasin, Sarpanch Vikram Singh and Anil Rakwal.
