STATE TIMES NEWSUDHAMPUR: To drive against clearing backlog of cataract surgery the KLSM Rotary Eye & ENT Hospital Udhampur a unit of “The Udhampur Rotary Eye & General Welfare Foundation” in collaboration with Rotary Club Udhampur organised a free eye screening camp to screen the patients suffering with cataract blindness. The main objective of this camp is to treat the patients who fall in blind category i.e. the patients whose vision is less than 6/60. In the said camp 176 patients were screened and out of which 17 patients were found in blind category. The patients were advised for cataract surgery at KLSM Rotary Eye & ENT Hospital Udhampur on 28-07-2021. 15 patients reported and operated for cataract surgery on the same day. All the patients had regained their vision and were in a position to do the normal work.The Udhampur Rotary Eye & General Welfare Foundation has committed to clear the backlog of the blind patients in 1st phase from the whole of Udhampur District as well as its adjoining district. All lodging and boarding facilities have been provided by the super Sr. citizen Sham Lal Khajuria a social worker of the area, Smt Preeti Khajuria (Councilor), Sh Ashwani Khajuria (Social worker) also participated in the camp and rendered their services. It is the 17th camp which was organized at Lalli Dabbar with the support of Sham Lal Khajuria.On 29th of July all the patients were discharged from the hospital. During their stay at hospital all lodging and boarding will be provided by the Hospital free of cost. Dr Ankur Goel, Dr Sumeru Raina along with their team performed the surgeries. All surgeries were done free of cost.Members of The Udhampur Rotary Eye & General Welfare Foundation, Rotary Club Udhampur along with Chairman Rtn. D. N. Sharma and President Rotary Club Udhampur Rtn Rajeev Gupta were present while discharging the patients.Rtn D. N. Sharma, Chairman of The Udhampur Rotary Eye & General Welfare Foundation has assured to organize such screening camps in Jammu province till the whole backlog will not be cleared. All the staff members of the hospital deserve a bigger plot for rendering their dedicated service for prevention of avoidable blindness.
