STATE TIMES NEWSRAMBAN: To assess the ground situation of construction work on the double-tube four-lane tunnel between Qazigund and Banihal a prominent part of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway widening project, which is in the final stage, Road Transport and Highways Secretary Giridhar Aramane along with J.S. Rathore (MD) JCM developers Pvt LtdProject management consultant (Quazigung- banihal tunnel) and other senior officers visited Banihal-Qazigund Tunnel and reviewed the progress of the prestigious project on Tuesday.According to official, the trial of the various facilities inside the tunnel including the ventilation set up and CCTVs installed inside the tunnel had already started and the tunnel is expected to be thrown open in coming weeks.DDC Ramban Mussarat-ul-Islam, SP Ramban P.D.Nitya, ADC, Harbans Lal, SDM Banihal Zaheer Abbas and others also present during the visit.Road Transport and Highways Secretary GIRIDHAR Aramane said that most of the mechanical and electrical work has been completed while the toll plazas on both the terminals are also ready. He said that Only security gadget are pending due to COVID-19 restrictions on flights, as they will be procured from Singapore.He assured that the mega project will be thrown open for public within weeks, which will reduce the travel distance on the highway by 16 km.The construction work on the 8km tunnel cutting across the Pir Panjal mountain range was started in 2011 by the Andhra Pradesh based ‘Navyug Engineering Company’ after approval by the NHAI at an estimated cost of over Rs 2000 crore, .As per reports that round the clock furnishing work is currently underway on the project and they are trying their best to inaugurate the tunnel as soon as possible.
