Revoke new land laws in J&K debarring Mahajan, Khatri communities from buying, selling land in J&K: UDA

STATE TIMES NEWS

JAMMU: United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Jammu and Kashmir, criticized the government for alleged conspiracy against the Mahajan and Khatri communities who are debarred from buying or selling land in the J&K Union Territory.
Briefing media persons here, Rajiv Mahajan, Convener of UDA said that a resident of Talab Tillo went to the office of Sub District Magistrate for register purpose of his property.
The concerned SDM has denied making a register alleging that people belonging to Mahajans and Khatris are not able to buy or sell land in the J&K Union Territory following the amendment of New Land Law.
Mahajan termed the caste based system in purchasing and selling land in Jammu and Kashmir under new Land Laws amended by the BJP-led Government at the Centre after abrogation of Article 370 as a conspiracy against the aforesaid communities.
Mahajan asserted that the members of both these communities can purchase and sell land across the country but it is extremely depressing that they cannot purchase even one Marla of agricultural land whereas there is no such restriction on people belonging to other communities.
Mahajan maintained that all the citizens of the country are treated equally before law irrespective of caste, colour or creed but the government adopts dual policy and gross injustice with these communities.
Mahajan urged the government to revoke its order debarring the aforesaid communities from buying or selling land in J&K within 15 days failing which the members of these communities will come on road and will launch a massive protest against the BJP government.
He also warned that if BJP failed to revoke this order within 15 days the party will not get even a single seat in the next Assembly elections of Jammu and Kashmir. Besides he also appealed to members of Mahajan and Khatri communities to come on a common platform for getting justice.
The UDA members appealed to the Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha to look into the matter seriously and revoke this order at the earliest.
Among others who were present in the press conference include Co-Convenors of UDA Kulbir Singh Slathia, Bharat Bhushan Gupta and Jaswinder Singh (Kuku).
