JAMMU: Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday demanded clearing of vital roads and other relief and rescue and restoration operations in snow bound areas, on war footing basis.JKPCC Chief G.A Mir said that the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and other vital road links are blocked due to heavy snowfall and landslides as a result over 4000 vehicles are stranded on highway.This calls for immediate relief, rescue and restoration work on war footing to give respite to the people stranded in snowbound areas of valley and several parts of Jammu region, he added.He said that the power and water supply systems and the supply of essential commodities and health services should be properly maintained by the administration, at the earliest.Mir urged the Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha to direct the senior officers at divisional, district and sub division levels to regularly monitor the situation and also maintain hot line services to the people at far-flung and remote areas.The people shall find it difficult to contact the official machinery at the various levels, for which emergency services should maintained at all costs and emergency telephone numbers should be made available and be regularly attended round the clock, he said.Mir also urged for providing essential eatables and other necessities to the stranded drivers/conductors on the highway before they are rescued at the earliest.
