JAMMU: A Division Bench of J&K High Court comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Puneet Gupta directed respondents to give due publicity to prohibition of polythene and apprise all vehicle owners and public at large about legal position.The significant order has been passed in an application seeking release of a vehicle (Truck) carrying prohibited material. As Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are ecologically fragile areas especially tourism spots, prohibition on polythene is required to be strictly enforced. It is as such essential that respondents give due publicity to prohibition and apprise all vehicle owners and public at large about legal position.The DB directed Home Department, J&K State Pollution Control Board, Tourism Department, Floriculture Department, Environment and Forest Department and Housing and Urban Development Department to prepare proper publicity material which shall be posted in electronic /print media as well as displayed on signages at all eminent places in Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, notifying public regarding the prohibitions and disclosing liabilities which shall flow for carrying such prohibited material including financial liabilities/ fines. The DB further directed to file an action taken report by respondents including the concerned authorities before next date of hearing.
