Powerlifting players’ plea to Advisor Khan

STATE TIMES NEWS

JAMMU: Finding it difficult to seek benefits of government jobs considering the fresh guidelines incorporated in the new rules for outstanding sportspersons of Jammu and Kashmir, those medal winners in the event of Powerlifting have pleaded their case with the Advisor (Sports), Farooq Khan.
In a letter addressed to the Advisor, one of the medal winners between 2013 and 2019 in Bench Press event of Powerlifting, Radha Kumari has requested for directions to entertain applications of ‘outstanding sportspersons’, who have submitted their files during 2013 to 2019 in compliance to ‘previous advertisements’.
She further wrote: Keeping in view our genuine humiliation, it is requested to your good self kindly issue directions to the concerned authority to entertain the applications submitted by the outstanding sportspersons to save our future. Radha has won many medals at the National and international level during the year between 2013 to 2019 at the National level.
Pertinent to member here that the new sports rules of January six, 2022 made Powerlifting in composite category only in place of earlier single events like Bench Press. Furthermore, the national and international achievements are considered only provided a player has participated at the district and state/UT level competitions prior to India events. The case is still pending in the High Court of J&K.
And, 2014, such medal winners approached the court after the J&K Sports Council (JKSC) amended the outgoing SRO 349 introducing district and state/UT participation mandatory prior to representation at National level.
