POONCH: Power House Hockey Club clinched the Ist Sham Lal Memorial girls’ five-a-side Hockey Tournament outplaying Sham Lal Hockey Academy 3-1 in the final played at Sports Stadium, here today.Meenakshi remained in limelight for his two goals for the winning team. She struck the goal post in the fifth and 15th minute of the match while third goal came through Ishta in the 25th minute of the match. From Sham Lal Academy, Sita scored the lone goal that came in the 22nd minute. In total, six teams participated in this tournament.In the final and valedictory of the tournament, SSP Poonch, Ramesh Kumar Angral was the chief guest, who gave away the prizes. Speaking to the finalist teams and other distinguished gathering, the chief guest was all praise for former SAI Hockey coach, Sham Lal for his dedication and contributions in taking Poonch hockey to new heights.He mentioned that it was his (Sham Lal) selfless efforts that Poonch hockey has earned a name in J&K with the result the Government decided to give the place state of the art Astroturf.He also appreciated the coaching staff of Sham Lal Hockey Academy for organising such tournaments and motivating girls to participate in games and sports.The DYSP DAR, Sachin Gupta, Farhad Siddque and Nirdosh Kumar (Manger) were guests of honour while, Sarla Sharma, Hargeet Kour (both PEMs), Ravinder Singh, Rajinder Singh Toofan (veteran hockey players), Pevaiz Malik Afridi (Chairman EHSAAS Foundation), Matinder Pal Singh, Ranveet Singh, Navjot Singh (all Hockey coaches) and Ram Prakash.Later, Pawan Kumar and Mukesh Kumar (hockey coaches) thanked all the guests and participants for making this tournament a big success and promised more such events in future. The competition officiated by the technical panel comprising Navjot Singh, Agrim and Kavleen.The event was organised by Sham Lal Hockey Academy in collaboration with Hockey Poonch and J&K Sports Council under the aegis of Hockey J&K.
