Poonch emerges U-17 boys volleyball champion

POONCH: Hosts district Poonch emerged champion outplaying district Jammu in the inter-district J&K UT under-17 boys’ Volleyball tournament which was organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at GDC grounds, here on Wednesday.
Before making it a straight sets win, the energetic side of Poonch had to undergo tough resistance from Jammu boys in the second and third set. The score: 25-15, 25-20, 25-18. Musharraf Khan, Ayaz Madni and Mohd Hafeez from the winning side displayed extra ordinary skills in the title clash.
Earlier, in the semifinals, Poonch defeated Bandipora 3-2 (25-18, 25- 22, 25-17) and Jammu trounced district Samba in similar fashions 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, 25-18).
The technical panel comprised Neeraj Sharma, Sourab, D.K Raina, Ikhalaq, Waseem, Manzoor, Intazar, Shabir, Hamid, Shafqat, Asif and Imtaiz.
In the final and prize distribution function, SSP Khalid Ameen was the Chief Guest, who appreciated the young Poonch spikers and was all praise for the DYSS for providing young players platform to perform and excel.
Among others present were Deputy Director Planning, Ravi Kumar; district (DYSS) officer, Mohd Qasim; Food Inspector, Javid; Pardeep Khanna and Councillor, Imtaiz Salaria.
