Police seizes five 12-bore shotguns from poachers

SRINAGAR: In a special drive against poachers, Police in Ganderbal has seized 5 12-bore shotguns in Shalbugh and Paribal villages.
Officers from Police Station Kheerbhawani and Police Post Shadipora raided at different locations in Shalbugh and Paribal villages of Ganderbal area and recovered five 12-bore guns from poachers, who were misusing their licensed weapons and causing huge loss by killing a large number of migratory birds.
In this regard, cases vide FIR No.11/21 and FIR No. 25/2021 under relevant sections of law were registered against five persons at Police Station Kheerbhawani and Police Station Ganderbal respectively. Further investigation has been initiated in the matter.
SSP Ganderbal Khilal Ahmed Poswal asked poachers for refraining themselves from killing migratory birds either with licensed or unlicensed weapons. Killing of migratory birds not only threatens certain species but also leads to degradation of ecosystem and livelihood of locals as well, he added.
