STATE TIMES NEWS
RANGIA (ASSAM): Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh said here today that as Prime Minister, Narendra Modi had visited Northeast more than forty times in just over six years, which could be more than the total number of visits of all his predecessors put together.Responding to a statement made by APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) President, Ripun Bora that Prime Minister Modi had visited Assam on the eve of election, Dr. Jitendra retorted back saying that former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, even though he was elected Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from Assam, hardly visited Assam. During the UPA government, Assam was driven back several decades behind in terms of development and growth.Addressing a public rally here today, Dr. Jitendra said, it was Prime Minister Modi’s personal outreach which percolated down to the bottom and contributed to a revolutionary transformation in the region including Assam. The pace of development, he said, gained further momentum after the BJP government took over in the State in 2016 and there was a perfect coordination in implementation of various central schemes and pushing forward various central projects. It was Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said Dr. Jitendra Singh, who initiated the novel experiment of arranging fortnightly tours by Central Ministers who would make on-the-spot assessment of various projects and strike a direct rapport with local population. Till about six years back, Dr. Singh said, Assam made news for protest, agitations and hartals and development has come to a standstill.Under the Modi government, not only peace was restored completely in the State but a series of new institutions and projects were launched one after the other. It is during the last six years only that Assam became an education hub with IIT, IIIT, upgraded new Departments in Guwahati University, Barua Cancer Hospital upgraded to Post-Graduate Doctor Onco Teaching Institute, a chain of engineering colleges and other teaching institutions. It was also during this period only, he said, that a network of roads was laid down, whereas in the past there would be disruption of roads for months together particularly during the rainy season. In the interest of maintaining the continuity of development journey, said Dr. Singh, it is important to vote BJP back to power so that the State government will be able to carry forward the complete benefit of public welfare schemes.
