Rajouri: Apni Party senior leader and Ex-MLA Rajouri Choudhary Qamar Ali today appealed for the intervention of Lt Governor Manoj Singh to open Mughal Road.
In a statement issued here today in Rajouri, Ch. Qamar said that the people of Rajouri and Poonch Districts have been put to unnecessary hardship and harassment with the closing of alternative road to Kashmir.
“The people especially ailing, students and traders have been left with no option to travel to Jammu and then to Kashmir. Is it justified for the people of Pirpanjal to take such a long journey and spend extra money even if some do not afford to. Many young men do labour work in different districts of Kashmir and they have been rendered helpless by the authorities dealing with the highway,” said Qamar.
He said that it was unfortunate instead of clearing the road to allow travelers to Kashmir; an important link to Kashmir has been closed without any justification.
On the one hand, he said, the Govt. opens Zojila Tunnel and on the other, ignores the people of Pirpanjal and compels to take up long journey to reach their destinations or get themselve checked in Srinagar’s premier hospitals.
“It is the time for Lt Governor to intervene and grill officials who fail to keep it functional. The responsible officials must be made accountable for their inefficiency,” he added.
