JAMMU: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta came down heavily against the opposition parties for supporting a call for Bharat Bandh on May 26 amid the existing crisis situation due to the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic across the nation.
It is pertinent to mention here that the aforesaid call for Bharat Bandh has been given by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha.
In a statement issued to media here today, the former deputy CM said that it is an irony of the nation that the opposition parties are leaving no opportunity even during the ongoing pandemic to satiate their petty interests for mere political scoring, least bothering about the consequences that may lead to aggravation of the already disastrous situation.
Kavinder asserted that on one hand these opposition parties castigate the Central Government even for allowing limited gatherings, and at the same time they are extending support to the Bharat Bandh call that will lead to gatherings with likelihood of fuelling protests thus leading to dangerous spread of the deadly Corona virus at this very critical juncture. He expressed astonishment over the fact that why the opposition parties are indulging in such dangerous misadventures that can lead not only to loss of precious lives but to uncontrollable spread of Corona virus. He said that people today are fully aware about the situation and the game plan of opposition parties and they will not fall in their trap to satiate their vested interests.
Meanwhile, the former Dy CM also visited the COVID testing camp at Ward No 2 in Old Satwari area of Jammu.
Interacting with the people there, he appealed for voluntarily coming forward for Corona testing and also make others in their areas aware about the need to undergo COVID test besides strict adherence to COVID SOPS and precautions like proper wearing of masks and not move out of their homes unless very necessary.
Expressing satisfaction over the facilities and arrangements at the testing camp, Kavinder appreciated the efforts of the SDM Jammu Tehsildar Mandal, Tehsildar Jammu South and BMO Sohanjana for holding and smooth functioning of such camps.
Prominent among those accompanying the former Dy CM were Avtar Singh Chib Naib Sarpanch, Pitamber Sharma, Sunil Kumar, Narinder Singh and Kartar Singh.
