Nine bootleggers nabbed with 96 bottles of liquor

JAMMU: Tightening noose against local liquor makers, Police on Wednesday arrested nine bootleggers and recovered haul of liquor from their possession.
As per details, a team of Police Station Kathua during Naka checking at Jarai Chowk, intercepted a Tata Tiago Car without any registration number and apprehended two persons namely Ravinder Kumar, son of Puran Chand and his accomplice Sunny Kumar, son of Jeewan, both residents of Narot Jamel Singh Tehsil and District Pathankot. During checking, 3 cartons containing 36 bottles of Blender’s Pride (illicit liquor) were recovered from their possession.
The illicit liquor was seized and both accused were arrested. In this regard, a case vide FIR No 248/2021 under Section 188 of IPC and 50 of Excise Act was registered at Police Station Kathua and investigation started.
Meanwhile, Police Station R S Pura has arrested 5 accused and recovered illicit liquor from their possession. A patrolling party led by ASI Rajinder Singh during routine patrolling, when reached near Chohalla Morh R S Pura, found five persons roaming in suspicious conditions. On seeing police party, the accused tried to flee. Acting swiftly, Police party nabbed all persons and during preliminary enquiry, they disclosed their identity as Narinder Pal Singh, son of Lal Singh; Mulkh Raj, son of Des Raj; Ravinder Kumar, son of Sewa Ram; Som Nath, son of Sewa Ram, all residents of R S Pura.
During their personnel search, 17 quarters of Desi illicit liquor, 28 pouches of illicit liquor and 2 ltrs of illicit liquor was recovered. On this, a case vide FIR No 102/2021 under Section 48 A of Excise Act was registered at Police Station R S Pura and further investigation was set into motion. It is pertinent to mention that police Sub Division R S Pura has tightened noose against local booze makers and has recently destroyed around 3,000 litres of local liquor (Lahan).
In another incident, in an act of alertness and prompt action, a team from Police Station Gangyal led by SHO Raghubir Singh while on Naka duty at Purmandal Morh, rounded up two suspects namely Akhil Saini, son of Ravinder Kumar, resident of Lahri Gurjrran (Punjab) and Shamsher Singh, son of Darshan Singh, resident of Mansurwal, Dona, Kapurthala (Punjab), who were coming from Bari Brahmna and moving towards Jammu on two different vehicles (PB08DS-8006 and PB09K-9615). During search, 60 bottles of illicit liquor viz 24 bottles and 36 bottles respectively, were recovered from their possession. Two cases vide FIR nos. 85 & 86/21 under Sections 48(a)/50 of Excise Act was registered against them at Police Station Gangyal.
