Shaurya slams splendid ton, Naved takes fifer as U-19 Multi-Day Tourney begins

JAMMU: Promising middle-order batsman Shaurya Manhas scored a brilliant century and Naved took 5-wicket haul, while Basit Akbar, Arnav Gupta, Gursimran Singh, Mohammad Manzir and Udhay Pratap Singh displayed a good show on day-1 of the Under-19 Men’s Multi-Day Cricket Tournament being organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) at four different venues across the Union Territory.
“After successful conduct of One-Day Tournaments in senior as well as junior age groups men and women, the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association has decided to organise Multi-Day tournaments begining with Under-19 Men’s category on Tuesday. The Multi-Day matches are the real test to judge the skill, temperament, aptitude and attitude of the players, besides their application and composure,” said Sub Committee Members of JKCA including Brig Anil Gupta, Advocate Sunil Sethi and Cricketer Mithun Manhas in a joint statement issued today.
Meanwhile, at Jammu University Ground, winning the toss and batting first, JKCA A4 scored a paltry total of 119 runs in 27.4 overs in their first innings against JKCA A3. Arnav Gupta top scored with unbeaten 79 runs off 83 balls, studded with 12 fours and I six, while Ishan Bali contributed 14 runs to the total.
Mohd Naveed was the pick of the bowlers from A3, who captured 5 important wickets by conceding 33 runs in his 8 overs, while Mohd Mashooq and Prabjot Singh claimed 2 wickets each.
In reply, JKCA A3 scored 196 in 58.1 overs in their first innings. Akshat Gandral top scored with 50 runs including 8 delectable boundaries and 1 six, whille Vansh Khadyal and Manoj Kumar contributed 41 and 40 runs to the total respectively.
For JKCA A4, Amaan took 4 wickets, while Piyush Kant, Ritvik Jaitley and Krishaang Brahmin claimed 2 wickets each.
At Country Cricket Stadium Gharota, JKCA A2 scored 285 runs in 83.1 overs in their first innings Team A1. Shaurya Manhas slammed a brilliant century (100) off 145 balls, while Gursimran Singh contributed 64 off 65 balls.
For A1, Udhay Pratap Singh took 4 wickets by conceding 54 runs.
In reply, JKCA A1 were 7/0 in 4 overs at the draw of stumps today.
At Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium Ground-A Srinagar, JKCA B1 scored 243 runs in 73.1 overs. Azhad Arshid top scored with 49 runs, while Oman Fayaz, Sakib Noor, Akeel Yaqoob and Taha Nazir contributed 32, 29, 27 and 24 runs respectively.
For JKCA B2, Sakib Lateef bagged 3 wickets, while Janib Javid and Ranjot Singh claimed 2 wickets each.
JKCA B2 in reply were 25/1 in 14.1 overs when the stumps were drawn today.
At Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium-B Srinagar, JKCA B3 were 233/7 in 67 overs against B4 at the draw of stumps today. Basit Akbar scored magnificent 83 runs, while Mohammad Manzir contributed valuable 49 runs to the total.
For JKCA B4, left-arm spinner Zaid Wani took 3 wickets, while Arooj Parvaiz bagged 2 wickets.
