Lawyers’ protest continues unabated on day 74

JAMMU: The ongoing agitation of lawyers practicing in Jammu wing of J&K High Court and Subordinate Courts completed 74 days on Monday. The lawyers held Dharna in Janipura Courts Complex. The Lawyers Action Committee has been carrying ahead agitation since October 15, 2020 in protest against continuation of suspension of normal functioning of High Court and Subordinate Courts since March 2020 and some other issues.
The Dharna was joined by Advocates J A Kazmi (former vice president), Baldev Singh Slathia (former acting president Jammu Bar), H C Jalmeria Convener of Action Committee, R S Kotwal, S C Subhash, Vinod Abrol, C S Gupta (Former Secretary Jammu Bar), B R Sharma (Former Vice President Jammu Bar), Rajinder Kumar Chanyal, Vijay Sharma, K S Sambyal, Mohd Usman Salaria (former vice president Jammu Bar), Subodh Singh Jamwal, Ashok Misra, Shah Mohd Choudhary, J P Sharma, Manohar Gupta, Bansi Lal Sharma, Ch Mohd Shabir, Jaswinder Singh, K S Chib, Amit Gupta, S C Sharma, Jatinder Singh, Pankaj Jamwal, Kuldip Singh, Harsh Sharma, Vasharan Thakur, Yash Pal, Abdul Rouf Lone, Manohar Lal, A K Sharma, Divya Ishan, A M Khan, Gourav Sharma, M Z Choudhary, Mehrul Puri, Ravi Kumar and R Chander.
The protesting lawyers expressed anguish over extension of restriction of lawyers and public to High Court till 15th Jan 2021. It lacks justification now when other fields of human activity including Govt. offices, business, politics and electioneering, marriage gatherings, conducting proceedings of parliament and assemblies, cinema halls, liquor bars, bus and air transport, farmers’ protests etc are going on since long after lock down.
