KVK Reasi organises vocational training programme for farm women


REASI: Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) began the vocational training programme on “Entrepreneurship development in organic vegetables cultivation” here today at Gunn village of Pouni block in Reasi district which was attended by number of women farmers of the area. The programme was organised under the guidance of Vice Chancellor,Prof. JP Sharma and Director Extension, Prof. SK Gupta of SKUAST-J.
Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi initiated the programme with the warm welcome of the participants. In the introductory session, he explained the importance of organic vegetables and said that the hilly areas have immense potential for organic vegetables cultivation. He encouraged the trainees to adopt the organic farming as there is less cost of cultivation and more profits. He guided the participants on the scientific cultivation of organic vegetables and urged the them for the commercial cultivation of organic vegetable by which they can generate more income and employment.
He educated the farm women that the excessive use of agro-chemicals in the vegetables causes lot of ailments to the human beings. He discussed on the application of organic manures, biopesticides and biofertilizers in the soil and stressed on the vermicomposting technology. He also guided them to make the low cost vermicompost units by which the nutritional requirements of the soil can be mitigated. He also suggested the organic management of insect-pests, diseases and weeds in their vegetables. He emphasized on the Self Help Groups (SHGs)/Farmers Producer Organisations (FPOs) for the micro-agrientrepreneurships in the rural areas. He also discussed on the value addition in organic vegetables and suggested that farm women can money more money by the value addition of vegetables. During the programme awardee woman farmer of KVK, Reasi Anita Devi was also present.
