REASI: Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu(SKUAST-J) organised the farmers training programme on “Entrepreneurship development in organic vegetables cultivation” here at Dhanwa village of Pouni block in Reasi district which was attended by a number of aspiring farmers/women farmers of the area.The programme was organised under the guidance of Director Extension of SKUAST-J, Dr.SK Gupta. All the SOPs under COVID-19 were strictly followed while conducting the programme. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi started the programme with the warm welcome of the participants. In the introductory session, Dr.Banarsi briefed the importance and scope of organic vegetables and urged the participants for the commercial organic vegetable by which they can enhance their income and employment. He educated the participants on the principles and practices of organic farming. He said the participants that by the indiscriminate use of agro-chemicals in the vegetables, the soil health as well as humans’ health are being badly affected. While interacting with the participants, he said that the hilly areas have immense potential for organic vegetables growing and they can start entrepreneurship in organic vegetables to increase their income. He elaborated the scientific organic vegetables cultivation and guided the participants about the critical inputs used in the organic farming. He highlighted the use of vermicompost, biofertilisers, neem cake etc. in organic vegetables cultivation. He emphasized on the production of chemical free vegetables and guided farmers on the quality seeds of vegetables which can give the higher returns.He also guided participants to make the low cost vermicompost units, Panchgavya, cow urine, jeevamrit, fermented butter milk etc. He suggested the organic management of insect-pests, diseases and weeds in their vegetables. He also educated farmers on the certification of organic farm produce. He stressed on the processing of organic vegetables for more profits. Organic inputs were also distributed among the participants during the programme. Participants raised many quarries during the training programme which were answered satisfactorily by the KVK scientist.The programme was assisted by Sh.Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr.Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi with formal vote of thanks.
