POONCH: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Poonch of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) conducts capacity building programme for Extension officers of Department of Agriculture at KVK campus Poonch on Wednesday.The programme was attended by 30 officers from the Agriculture Department. In the beginning of the programme, the Extension functionaries and scientists from KVK discussed about the recent Farm laws and stressed the need for creating awareness about the New Farm laws among the farming community. The officers also deliberated on dissemination of improved technologies and recent varieties in the district for enhancing farmers income and creation of market infrastructure and Farmer Producer Organizations in the near future for doubling farmers income by 2022.Dr Ajay Gupta I/c. Sr Scientist and Head discussed about the monthly activities to be undertaken in rabi crops during the ensuing month. He explained about monocot and dicot weeds infesting the wheat and Oats crops in the district and suggested various preventive, mechanical, biological and chemical methods for weed control in rabi crops. He informed that weeds cause considerable loss in these crops if proper management is not done and there is a need to educate the farmers about proper weed management including weed ecology, herbicide application methods, herbicide dose and equipment’s as most of the farmers in the district are lacking knowledge in weed management. The officers of department also discussed the field problems with the KVK scientists.
