RAJOURI: A Kissan Mela cum Fruit show was today held here at Nowshera.
The event was organised by Department of Horticulture Rajouri under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) scheme to educate the farmers about latest horticultural techniques and tools. District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Rajesh K Shavan, was the chief guest. He inaugurated the Mela cum Fruit Show in presence of the Director Horticulture, Ram Savak.
Member DDC Nowshera Constituency, Manohar Singh; BDC Chairperson Nowshera, Bodh Raj; BDC Chairperson Seri, Neena Sharma; ADC Nowshera, Sukhdev Singh Sambayal; ADC Subderbani, Vinod Kumar Behnal; ASP Nowshera, Girdari Lal; Chief Horticulture Officer, Madan Lal; District Horticulture Officer, Shafqat Hussain; Tehsildar Nowshera, Babu Ram; ExEn PWD Nowshera, Prem Kapoor besides other concerned officers from the district administration were also present on the occasion. A large number of progressive farmers spoke at the fair and discussed the problems related to farming and suggested fruitful ways to sort out the same.
In his address, the DDC said that Kisan Mela is one of the most important technology dissemination tools for the farmers and emphasized on the need of increasing agriculture and allied sector productivity. He also stressed upon the need to strengthen an enabling environment to enhance contribution of Horticulture in the economy.
The DDC said that district Rajouri has a huge potential for Horticulture and the need of the hour is to make dedicated efforts to boost this sector. He impressed upon the farmers to be open to adopting new techniques and tools in the field to boost the production. He also asked them to go for organic farming instead of using fertilizers to keep themselves and their environment free from pollution and diseases.
