JAMMU: A delegation of senior BJP leaders led by Kavinder Gupta, former Deputy Chief Minister met Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and discussed issues confronting people of Jammu and Kashmir.
At the very outset of the meeting, the delegation discussed the issue regarding legal entanglement for Mahajan, Khatri and other communities in buying and selling the agriculture land in the UT of J&K.
The BJP delegation led by former Deputy Chief Minister comprising Sat Sharma, former Minister; Sunil Sethi, BJP Spokesperson and Dr Devender Manyal, former minister vigorously supported the cause of the aforesaid communities claiming that the said legal clause is highly discriminatory and full of prejudice.
The other issues which were discussed threadbare included the abrupt implementation of new Excise Policy rendering the existing wine traders jobless and devoid of earning their livelihood and continuous ban on mining of minor minerals which also has forced many construction material dealers to close their establishments besides irking common people who are getting sand, Bajri, etc on exorbitant rates due to this unreasonable restriction on mining.
Kavinder Gupta asked the LG to revisit the aforesaid decisions and find out some middle path so that the sufferings of the aforesaid stakeholders could be minimized as the steps which the government has taken are lopsided and taken arbitrarily without consulting any of the stakeholders.
He also raised the issue of Jammu Municipal Corporation asking the residents of Gandhi Nagar locality to vacate 10 feet of land from front of their houses. He said that such decisions are in no way advisable as the government should help in making life of people convenient rather than making it difficult for them to survive. He said that amicable solutions to all these issues are the need of time otherwise people will start claiming that the government is not a welfare state which thinks for betterment of society.
After giving a patient hearing, the LG Manoj Sinha assured the delegation of taking a sympathetic view on all the issues. He also assured that the order to rectify the lacunae in the case regarding denial on buying and selling property to Mahajan, Khatri and other communities will be issued within days and there will be no discrimination as such. In all other matters, the LG made it clear that people’s interest will be the priority of the government and prejudice of any kind will not be allowed to happen. He said that J&K will soon be developed as the model union territory with unmatched avenues and best of facilities.
