STATE TIMES NEWSUDHAMPUR: Udhampur Campus, University of Jammu organised a national webinar on ‘Design Thinking: Fostering Innovation in Young Minds’ under the rectorship of Professor Parikshat Singh Manhas who is determined to impart knowledge and learning in innovation style and keeps motivating all the departments to organize national and international events on the campus to boost the morale of faculty and students. The session started at 10:00 am and was attended by over 100 participants from across the country.The webinar began with an introduction by Dr. Kamani Dutta, lecturer, Udhampur Campus, University of Jammu. Dr. Dutta was the coordinator for the event who gave a brief introduction on the topics that were going to be discussed and introduced to the panelist and speaker. The Webinar was conducted under the direction and guidance of Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas.Prof. Tejinder Sharma, an eminent professor from Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, India was the resource person for the webinar who started the webinar by creating and running a live word cloud poll which evoked excitement and give the audience energy as they can see all their text responses appear on the presentation screen in front of them. Prof. Sharma explained how design thinking helps to upgrade our living standards and focuses on customer empathy and research, the first phase of design thinking. While explaining the different phases of design thinking, Mr. Sharma spoke about the methods used in each phase and how best the methods can be adopted.Sighting different examples, Professor explained the role of each phase in design thinking and its link to innovation. He also spoke about importance of mind mapping and empathy map in fuelling the process of innovation. Professor Sharma focus on strategies for testing assumptions using prototyping in product and service development while introducing the concept of design thinking and the role it plays in business today. The webinar was interactive throughout, enabling the participants to share their ideas and opinions within the session, as well as posing questions.Dr. Dutta proposed the vote of thanks. The participants provided very positive and motivating feedback about the webinar. She thanked Professor Parikshat Singh Manhas, Rector, Udhampur Campus, University of Jammu for giving permission to organise this webinar and inviting eminent speaker to conduct it .Special thanks to Prof. Manoj Kumar Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, patron of the webinar for his continuous support and guidance.
