JAMMU: Reacting on landslide that occurred at Circular road in Jammu city on Wednesday evening, former Minister J&K and Senior Congress leader, Yogesh Sawhney criticised local authorities and said that JMC should be held responsible for damage due to landslide, which occurred on a dry-day and five vehicles were buried under the debris. “A landslide occurred at same place not long ago due to severe rains and water-logging, causing damage to property and vehicles. It has been only a month since repairs that another incident has occurred at the same place,” said Sawhney, holding JMC authorities responsible for the same. He alleged that substandard and low-quality material was used in fixing damage caused earlier. This time too, five vehicles have been damaged, causing damage of lakhs to the residents, he added.“Locals are paying cost of JMC’s recklessness. Recently only, JMC had held a press conference lauding its achievements for last two or more years, but the real proof of their achievements was seen today. It is absolutely unacceptable that people’s lives are endangered out of irresponsibility, recklessness and even corruption. Had the infrastructure been built efficiently last time, this occurrence would not have repeated itself. Moreover, the landslide occurred in the dry weather in absence of any rain, which indicates that massive damage was the result of inefficient building material and not any natural process,” he added.“How can the administration be so reckless and endanger people’s lives like that? Children play on same road, cars drive by, vehicles are parked there, houses are built all around, then how authorities act this irresponsible? What if some harm had come to life and someone was injured, who would have been held responsible then,” asked Sawhney, adding, “We need a proper inquiry, a long term solution and transparent action right now.”
