JAMMU: Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Avny Lavasa on Wednesday convened a meeting with regard to provide better sanitation facilities to the citizens at their door steps and also to streamline the system wherein Tinna Mahajan, Secretary and Dr. Sanjogita Soodan, Health Officer were also present.With a view to maintain better sanitation and hygiene in the residential and commercial areas and also to stop disposal of garbage on roads, Commissioner said JMC is taking every possible step to reach to expectations of the public in respect of maintaining sanitation upto to the mark.During the course of meeting certain directions were issued to Sanitary Inspectors/Sanitary Supervisors of all the 75 wards for focusing on sanitation of their respective wards and to collect user charges from residential and commercial areas so that revenue can be generated for JMC and the same shall be utilized for development purpose in different wards.She further directed that shopkeepers and hoteliers and other businessman establishment owners be asked to handover the waste only to designated vehicles which have been kept exclusively for this purpose, as this practice will help in maintaining sanitation and desired that people should be made aware of the fine and penalties to be imposed on defaulters and violators as per municipal bye laws for littering and open dumping of garbage including (C&D) waste etc. the amount of fines & penalties for different violators and defaulters has already been notified by JMC.Besides, Jammu Municipal Corporation under the supervision of Secretary Tinna Mahajan and staff of JMC launch drive against the menace of polythene carry bag.During the drive, about 06 kg of Polythene carry bag was seized and imposed Rs. 3700 compounded fine to numbers of Shopkeepers at Bahu Fort area. The team instructed the shopkeepers to replace polythene with cloth bags.Secretary JMC advised the people to spread the message of cleanliness among the masses. She also appealed to cooperate with Jammu Municipal Corporation in keeping in Jammu clean and green and avoid using polythene carry bags, use dustbins/containers installed in their area.Commissioner, JMC appealed to all the Jammuites to cooperate with JMC to safeguard the ever deteriorating environmental health and beauty of Jammu.She stressed to follow the guideline issued in the public interest in view of Covid-19 like maintaining social distancing, wearing of masks, frequent washing of hands etc.
