JAMMU: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh presented the coveted AGNI award to Amit Sharma, Director and Cyber Advisor, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for his significant contribution to the technological advancement of the country’s defence capabilities and bringing in self reliance to India’s defence establishment in Cyber Domain.He is the youngest awardee to receive the award in the cyber domain.Sharma, a senior technocrat in DRDO, the country’s premier defence technology establishment, received the AGNI award in a ceremony organised at the DRDO Bhawan in New Delhi in the presence of Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for Defence, CDS Gen Rawat, the three services Chiefs, Secretary DRDO and other dignitaries.It is a special moment of pride for all the residents of the UT of Jammu, as one amongst us receives one of the highest honours in the country for technological advancement in the Defence field.Amit, son of Prof S.D Sharma & Prof Rani Magotra, retired Jammu University professors, has been awarded numerous awards for his work in cyber domain including Special Award for Strategic Contribution for the year 2012 by then Defence Minister, A K Antony. He was the ‘DRDO Young Scientist of the Year’ and the recipient of the System Society of India’s Vikram Award for contribution to real life systems of National importance for the year 2012.A Chevening Fellowship awardee, Amit is a highly sought after global subject matter expert in Cyber Defence & has been invited to the NATO Centre of Excellence on Cyber Defense as one of the international experts.He is also a part of the current Indian delegation in the United Nations Group of Governmental Experts.Son of the soil, Amit Sharma is the youngest ever awardee to receive the AGNI in this domain.On personal side, Amit & his wife Vanika, a Jammu girl herself, have been endowed with two sons.
