JAMMU: Premier sports body of Jammu and Kashmir Olympic Association (JKOA) on Wednesday felicitated World Championship gold medalist and only Olympic qualifier athlete from Jammu and Kashmir, shooter Chain Singh in a well attended function at Amar Singh Club, here.Celebrity shooter of the country and a native of remote district of Doda, Chain Singh was overwhelmed with the love and affection shown by the sports fraternity back home.“One always aspires to get recognition back home and when the honours come from a premier sports body, it really matters a lot to an athlete. I’m thankful to the JKOA for the encouragement and support during all these years,” Chain Singh told SAN.Earlier, president of JKOA, Dr Ashutosh Sharma introduced the country’s top shooter to the members of the Association amidst highlighting his achievements and struggle to attain the peak.“Chain Singh is a true example of sheer hardwork and excellence by an athlete who belongs to a remote village which still awaits road connectivity. He deserves applauds and appreciations from one and all,” said veteran sports administrator, Dr Ashutosh.While doing the honours, general secretary of the JKOA and former international wrestler, Dushyant Sharma disclosed that the Association has decided to present a cash award to Chain Singh for his recent achievements of a gold in the World Championship and qualification for the Olympic Games.Chain Singh was accompanied by president of the J&K Rifle Association (JKRA), Kuldeep Singh and vice president (administration), Sharat Chander Singh.The event was also joined by former Sports Minister, Yogesh Sawhney and office bearers of various sports associations of J&K, including Kiran Wattal (Gymnastics), Kuldeep Gupta (Kabaddi), Kuljeet Singh (Basketball), Rajan Sharma (Boxing), Ravinder Singh (Cycling), Sunil Sharma (Archery), Vikas Gupta (Judo), Tarsem Sharma (Jijutsu), Narinder Mahajan (Handball), Satwant Singh Gill (Cycling), Ravinder Singh (Athletics), Vinod Bhatia (Yoga), Ravinder Singh (Tug of War), Vijay Kumar Magotra (Volleyball), Dr Taran Singh (Hockey), Balbir Singh Jamwal (Badminton) and Ravi Salgotra (Cycling).
