Th. Gulchain Singh Charak, Former Minister: We appreciate the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in holding an All Party meeting with the leaders of Jammu and Kashmir but it is sad that many other stakeholders were ignored. We hope the promises made in the meeting will be fulfilled. The stress on statehood and delimitation exercise for holding elections is an important development and the people wish the process to be expedited for transferring governance to the elected representatives, which is core of democracy.
Retd Session Judge Pavittar Singh, President Jammu Province Peoples Forum: All Party Meet was a good decision. This had rekindled hope that there will be some delivery for the people of Jammu and Kashmir but unfortunately no fruitful results were there. The issues of Jammu were not discussed. It’s a disgrace that Jammu province was once again excised out even from discussions on J&K’s political future. We, the people of Jammu, are not satisfied with this All Party Meet. The BJP has failed to highlight the issues faced by the people of Jammu. It is because Jammu lacks a committed leadership. The need of the hour is that leaders of all hues must shun vested interest and work for Jammu. Delimitation needs to be done. On the security front, Jammu is genuinely concerned in the wake of recent drone attacks, which a challenge that has to be met with courage and fortitude.
Adv Abhinav Sharma, BJP Spokesperson: We welcome the step taken by PM Modi to break the ice and start the dialogue process with leaders of Jammu and Kashmir. All leaders shared their views and issues threadbare. Everyone expressed their commitment to democracy and the constitution. It was indeed the need of the hour to strengthen the democratic process in Jammu and Kashmir. The future of Jammu and Kashmir was discussed. Discussions over key points like the delimitation process has been core of the meeting that has rekindled hope about early elections. Moreover, restoration of statehood made by the Prime Minister will be fulfilled soon.
