TATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Raising concerns over the Government’s New Excise Policy for 2021-22, Jammu Wine Traders Association on Wednesday said that the Excise Department has failed in all the corners and the New Excise Policy 2021-22 is a total failure.Members of Jammu Wine Traders Association (JWTA), while addressing press conference, said that the New Excise Policy has failed badly in all aspects.“Government was boasting about fetching 140 Cr from the e-Auctioning as 40 bidders have withdrawn their bid and not deposited the bid amount as they ran away,” said Charanjeet Singh.Singh told the reporters that out of 228 licences, only 100 licensees have been able to open their shops.Singh further said that earlier 223 Licenses use to collect Rs 1500 cr (approx) revenue every year for the government but today with the failure of the policy, the government is facing huge loss in the revenue day by day.“Spurious liquor is being sold openly in the market to fetch more profit by the outsiders who have taken majority shops in auction. Liquor is being sold by outsiders at the higher rates than desired price fixed by the government but no check is being made by the Excise Department directly effecting the pocket of the local people of J&K,” he added. He said that before switching over to new excise policy, the government should have taken a lenient view with regards to existing license holders as e-auctioning has put at risk prospects of their survival and sustenance.Earlier government had provided licence to unemployed youth of the J&K to earn their livelihood for their family and now government had snatched their livelihood and brought them on roads, he said adding that no new employment was generated from this excise policy but on the other hand the people who were involved in this business were made unemployed.Digvijay Singh urged Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha to reconsider the Excise policy 2021-22.
