Jammu lifts overall trophy in J&K Taekwondo C’ship



JAMMU: District Jammu lifted the overall championship trophy in the 23rd J&K UT Taekwondo Championship, which was organised by the J&K Taekwondo Association at Bhagwati Nagar Indoor Complex of the J&K Sports Council, here on Thursday.
Overall second position was bagged by district Poonch while third place went to district Kathua considering the points earned out of the medal won during the three-day event.
In Kyorugi, around 100 fight bouts took place while in other event of Poomsae there were 44 pattern performances. As also free style Poomsae. The event recently been introduced in the Grandprix.
The closing day of the championship witnessed a host of invited guests giving the honours.
Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education, Talat Parvez was the Chief Guest, who along with senior BJP leader, Abhijit Singh Jasrotia presented the medals and overall championship trophies.
Among the Guests of Honour were Sham Lal (Additional Mission Director JKRLM), Tarun Uppal (Chairman Nirbhay Bharat Foundation), Sukhdev Singh (District officer DYSS). The closing was also graced by special guests, Subash Shastri (President NMC), DS Jamwal (retired District Commissioner), Himanshu Sharma (Legal Advisor JKTA), Ramesh Sharma (joint secretary JKTA), Shiva Ram Sharma (executive member Brahman Sabha).
Prominent among those present were D N Pangotra (president JKTA), Nisar Hussain (vice president JKTA), Zaheer Abaas (treasurer JKTA), Rajinder Dogra, Sanjay Ratra (both veteran players), Vikas Gupta (Judo coach), Suraj Bhan (Judo coach), Kuldeep Gupta (Yoga coach), Ritika Slathia (Judo), Rachna Jamwal (fencing coach).
The technical panel, led by Sarbjeet Singh (Chandigarh), had a tough time to meet the deadlines of the laid down schedule. The penal comprised Ankit Upadhyay (Delhi), Akshish (Delhi), Vivek Prasad (Delhi), Kamlesh Kumar Bairwa (Rajasthan), Bilal Ahmed Dar (Srinagar), Burhan Ud Din Khan (Doda), Jagpreet Kour (Jammu), Shanaz Parveen (Ladakh), Aman (Delhi), Deepak Yaduvanshi (UP), Ankit Mer (Uttarakhand), Priyanshu Bisht (Uttarakhand) and Suhel (Delhi).
Earlier, distinguished gathering was welcomed by organising secretary, Anuj Sharma. Later, technical director of the JKTA, Atul Pangotra presented vote of thanks. He expressed his gratitude to the team managers and officials from the districts for the cooperation and supports in successful conduct of the championship.
