JAMMU: Amidst improving COVID-19 pandemic situation, the hosting of Jammu District Boxing Championship received an encouraging response with a good number of young boxers taking part in the two-day competition at Boxing Ring, MA Stadium, here.
The event was declared open by Senior Manager of the J&K Sports Council (JKSC), Satish Gupta in the presence of general secretary J&K Amateur Boxing Association, Rajan Sharma and senior football coach, Vishwamitar.
The Chief Guest interacted with the young boxers and advised them take part in the game following the Government guidelines and other safety measures.
“This time, it was decided by the organising committee not to allow those National level boxers in the district championship with sole aim to encourage those young boys. However, everyone will get a chance to compete in the upcoming J&K level championship,” informed General Secretary of the Association, Rajan Sharma.
The technical panel in this competition is led by Boxing coach of JKSC, Anil Wadhera and comprised Harinder Singh (JU), Pardeep Sharma (Army), Arif Mohd and Vinod Bhardwaj.
This championship is organised by J&K Amateur Boxing Association under the aegis of Boxing Federation of India and JKSC.

SENIORS: Semifinals: 52-56 kg: Ajay Singh bt Akash Kumar; Gurjant bt Satish Chouhan. 56-60 kg: Vikrant Manhas bt Ankush Gangla; Mahesh Kumar bt Aman Bhau. 60-63 kg: Harish Gabgotra bt Danish Kumar. 63-69 kg: Nikhil Khajuria bt Ranyodh Charak; Shubham Mehra bt Bishesh Sharma.
