Jammu Admn starts strict enforcement of COVID-19 SoPs in Narwal Mandi

JAMMU: District administration Jammu has initiated a series of steps to reduce rush at Narwal Mandi, which is the largest Mandi of Jammu, catering to needs of not only Jammu district but other districts of province as well. Recently some photographs showing huge rush in Narwal Mandi went viral on social media platforms, after which district administration chalked out a multi-dimensional plan to deal with the situation besides ensuring strict measures to implement COVID restrictions in the area, without causing much hindrance to traders who visit Mandi for their business works.
Under these efforts, authorities have now introduced a system to allow only a limited number of customers, at a time, in Mandi and that too for a specific time period in order to avoid rush. Besides, both random as well as specific samplings have also been started in Narwal Mandi to screen COVID suspects, whereas different teams have been constituted to impose fine on SoPs violators. The teams from both police as well as horticulture department are spreading awareness regarding SoPs through public address systems among people and traders. Police vehicles patrol entire area during business hours in order to check any violation.
In another such initiative, aimed to run Narwal Mandi without any rush, the timing for its operation has been extended and now it is functioning upto 12 noon as compared to earlier closure time of 10 AM.
A team of senior police officers of Jammu led by SSP Jammu, Chandan Kohli visited Fruit Mandi and took stock of enforcement of COVID-19 SOPs and series of measures devised and put in place for smooth functioning of Mandi, purely as per SoPs.
SSP asked police teams, on duty, to ensure that COVID SoPs are implemented in letter & spirit and violators are dealt with iron hands. He also directed that mechanism devised for smooth operation of Narwal Mandi should be followed causing minimal hardships to traders.
