Chander Mohan SharmaShackles-free J&K needs to take soothing steps to immortalize the martyrdom of Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee. The statement of Union Home Minister, Amit Shah that the great martyr Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee was never given justice by the then political leadership of India, is a thought-provoking fact that has been suppressed by history of free India. To give a sense of soothing and healing touch to immense anguish deep within the nationalist forces, I believe in my humble earnest, that the Govt of India and UT Administration should erect a suitable and magnificent memorial of Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee at the Cottage located near Nishat Bagh, where Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee and two other Jan Sangh leaders were incarcerated by the then Sheikh Abdullah Government.Another soothing step would be that the old bridge at Lakhanpur on river Ravi, from where Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee challenged the mindset of Sheikhdom and was arrested by Kashmir Police, be declared as heritage site and decorated as symbol of national integration, to immortalize the historical martyrdom of Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee in Kashmir.Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee memorial fortnight (Pakhwara) is being celebrated across the nation to recall his contributions in strengthening Indian democracy, rule of law and United India. He had a desire of making India a vibrant, modern and a strong democracy. In J&K, his sacrifice was a turning point of agitation launched by Praja Parshad, a native political outfit committed to the cause of complete integration of J&K with rest of the county on lines of ‘Instrument of Accession’ executed by the then Maharaja of Jammu & Kashmir. The signature slogans of that time were ‘Ek Desh Mei Do Pradhan, Do Vidhan, Do Nishan Nahi Chalenge, Nahi Chalenge’ and ‘370 Tod Do, Hind Se Nata Jod Do.’The martyrdom of Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee under incarceration by Sheikh’s regime in J&K, in dubious and suspicious circumstances, sent a wave of fury and hatred against Nehru-Sheikh political nexus hitting the very roots of India. The national upheaval that generated with sacrifice of Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee finally culminated in revocation of permit system for free entry and exit of Indian citizens into erstwhile State of J&K. Jurisdiction of Supreme Court of India, Election Commission of India and Auditor and Comptroller General of India was also extended to the erstwhile J&K State.Residents of J&K are and shall remain indebted to great martyr in getting rid of the hidden agenda of thrusting Sheikhdom (autocracy) in J&K. A tug of war between nationalist and separatists ensued and continued till armed terrorists with active sponsorship of Pakistan entered into the arena. Following footsteps of Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee, 13 Praja Parishad youth activists also sacrificed their lives in police firing while hoisting National flag on Govt buildings at different places in Jammu province. The struggle continued through different modes for abrogation of Article 370 of Constitution of India, which was a big hurdle in free flow of democracy, economical growth and jurisdiction of Indian Parliament. Finally, the destiny gave a historical role to Amit Shah, Home Minister of India to hit the nail in the head on August 5, 2019, enabling the nation in trampling over the hurdle of Articles 370 and 35-A, once for all. Rich tributes are being paid to great martyr by the countrymen all over India on his 121st birth anniversary. I would also like to congratulate Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for naming Amphalla-Bantalab road as Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee road on the occasion.
