IEI Jammu Centre celebrates World Environment Day


JAMMU: The Institution of Engineers India (IEI), Jammu Local Centre celebrated World Environment Day on Saturday at Channi Himmat, through Google meet.
A webinar on the theme “Ecosystem Restoration” was organized.
At the outset, Dr. Sanjay Khar, FIE Chairman, IEI, Jammu Centre apprised the audience about the theme and presented the welcome address.
Five papers on the theme were presented by Er. P. K. Nanda, MIE; Er. B. L. Rawal, MIE; Er. Ranjeev Sawhney, MIE; Er. Mir Muneer Hussain, MIE and Er. Akash Dusgotra, AMIE. A case study of Ecological imbalances in the rural areas was also presented by Er. Vijay Kumar Sharma, MIE.
One of the speakers cited the example of distribution of tree saplings in a Gurudwara as Parsadam instead of routine porridge to sensitize the people at large about the presence of trees in our environment.
He requested that such awareness generating Parsadams must be distributed atleast once in a week from all religious places as a message of God to create awareness in the humanity regarding protection of environment and ecosystems through plantation of trees.
Another speaker raked up the issue of shifting of present J&K High Court Complex to Raika Village on the outskirts of Jammu.
He mentioned that Raika Forest area are lungs of Jammu which is likely to be cut completely for construction of New J&K High Court Complex.
The felling of trees in the Raika Forest area for construction of new J&K High Court Complex is akin to contracting COVID to Jammu town by depriving it of lungs which are the vital life sustaining organ in the present pandemic times, he said.
Yet another speaker made the audience aware about the Ecological Balance and Environment which is one of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). Er. C. P. MIE, Honorary Secretary of the centre conducted the proceedings of the seminar and presented vote of thanks.
