STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Keeping in view the ongoing delimitation process for Legislative Assembly constituencies of J&K, a meeting of Live and Let Live Society of India (LLLSI) was held on Sunday under leadership of its Chairman, Romal Singh and President, Santokh Singh Komal, wherein the participants demanded that delimitation for Parliamentary constituencies of J&K UT should also be carried out simultaneously with delimitation of Assembly constituencies.Speaking on the occasion, President LLLSI, Santokh Singh Komal said that while Jammu and Kashmir is undergoing delimitation for Legislative Assembly seats to rectify the discrimination done with Jammu region, there is dire need to end discrimination done with region by Kashmir-centric leaders in distribution of Lok Sabha seats as well, due to which people of Jammu region are suffering for last seven decades. He further said that Jammu, a greater province of erstwhile J&K State, was considered as elder brother of Kashmir for centuries under regime of Maharaja Gulab Singh, on basis of its greater geographical area and population. Subsequently, under a far-sighted and well-planned conspiracy, Jammu was brought under supremacy of Kashmir during first delimitation by the then Government in Centre, soon after accession of erstwhile State with Union of India, in sheer violation of norms of delimitation, he said.He further that due to indiscriminate discrimination with Jammu in every sector, deliberately done by successive governments both at Centre and J&K, the region lagged behind in every sphere.“May it be distribution of funds or facilities released from centre for welfare of people, the lion’s share was always diverted to valley, giving a meager share to Jammu just for name-sake. The discrimination continued for decades and all schemes and facilities, provided by Delhi for J&K, directly flew to Kashmir leaving Jammu high and dry,” he asserted. The people of Jammu always remained hapless at the hands Kashmir-based leaders enjoying patronage of successive governments in the centre, due to which demand for a separate Jammu State was raised, which was too turned to a deaf ear, he added.Welcoming decision of Government for carrying out delimitation for assembly constituencies of J&K to end discrimination and to provide due share of seats to Jammu region in Legislative Assembly, President LLLSI said that there is similar discrimination in distribution of Parliamentary constituencies as well, as Kashmir Province despite having lesser geographical area and population, has been given three Parliamentary constituencies while Jammu has only two.“We request that injustice done with Jammu in distribution of Parliamentary constituencies should also be rectified, by carrying out delimitation for Parliamentary constituencies, simultaneously with ongoing delimitation for Assembly constituencies in J&K UT,” he requested.Prominent among others present in the meeting included N S Anand, Bhagwan Dass, Jasmer Singh and Mohinder Singh.
