Srinagar: A Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday, police said.Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Shirmal area of the south Kashmir district after receiving specific inputs about the presence of terrorists there, a police official said.He said as the forces were conducting searches, terrorists fired upon them.The forces retaliated, ensuing an encounter, in which one terrorist was killed, the official said.The spokesperson identified the slain terrorist as Sajad Ahmad Bhat, a resident of the Badigam Aishmuqam area in Anantnag district.Bhat had links with the HM terror outfit. According to police records, he was active since September last year and was involved in several terror crime cases, the spokesperson said.Arms and ammunition, including a pistol with a magazine and a grenade, and other incriminating materials were recovered from the encounter site, he added.During the search operation, a terrorist hideout was busted and subsequently destroyed, the spokesperson said.Meanwhile, In another incident, in the evening at about 2015hrs, terrorists fired upon a mobile shop owner inside his shop at Main Chowk Habba Kadal. He has been identified as Umer Nazir Bhat son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat resident of Kelashpora Habakadal. In this terror incident, he received critical gunshot injuries and was shifted to nearby hospital for the treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries.Senior police officers reached at the terror crime spot. Investigation into the matter is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the circumstances which lead to this terror crime. Area has been cordoned off and search in the area is going on.IGP Kashmir said that these innocent killings of civilian and local policemen are being committed by local terrorists of LeT (self claimed as TRF) on the instruction of terrorist Abbas Sheikh. They have been indulging in the terror crimes for money being paid by Pakistani handlers. These criminals are falsely labelling these innocent persons as informers to hide their sin, police said.
